Blackpool Photo Challenge

Last week I was invited to Judge at the North Fylde Photographic Society, and when I realised how close it was to one of my FAVE photography towns, Blackpool, I knew I’d have to go early for a bit of a shoot there too, before going on to the club itself

So I thought, why not ask if any of the club’s members fancied meeting me there beforehand so we could have a natter and shoot together. To my delight, 4 persons came along

After a few minutes chat asking if they had anything in mind, which they didn’t, I suggested we had a bit of fun on one of my Photo Challenges

This particular challenge was something I came up with many years ago when a good friend of mine was struggling with her photography, and was thinking of packing it in! So I arranged to meet her locally where I set her a series of Challenges; this is how my infamous 5-pint Beer Challenge started! More on that another time lol

In essence, this Challenge is designed to make people think & ‘see’ differently, and it all starts with asking people to choose a focal length the CANNOT change throughout the Challenge, and then an aperture setting too that they also CANNOT change! And this is all BEFORE they know what I’m going to be asking them to shoot!

As we had limited time in Blackpool before needing to head off for the mandatory fish & chips I set just two themes… YELLOW and then PIER; with the requirement that everyone comes back after 25 mins with at least 5 different photos we all headed off to shoot something where the colour YELLOW was prominent or the subject itself - here’s a few of my choices…

These are all shot on my Nikon Z6ii with the Z24-70mm f2.8 lens, and all are at 70mm & f2.8

I’m happy to report that everyone managed at least 5 shots, so I then set everyone off again for 25 mins with the subject as PIER

Staying on my setting of 70mm & f2.8 this is what I came back with

As you can tell, there’s FAR MORE than just 5 images as this was such an easy photogenic subject :)
